George and the Dragon

By Garlic Theatre

Beware! In a cave under the castle lurks a fiery dragon waiting to devour monks, knights, sheep and …princesses – will George be bold enough to challenge it, or will he run away?

In Garlic Theatre’s award winning production, a delicious mix of wit, humour and inventiveness combine to celebrate one of the most famous medieval legends of all time. The production has toured to many Puppet Festivals around the world including Singapore, Taiwan, Brazil and Eastern Europe. With rod and glove puppetry, clowning masks and music. It has won 5 awards.

George and the Dragon is a quirky mix of a traditional mummers play in the style of Monty Python. Set in medieval times, the set is a pair of wooden stocks cleverly moved around to create different playing spaces. Directed by Mark Bell, the clowning between Mark and Iklooshar makes for delightful and entertaining storytelling with a gradual build up of delicious tension until the dragon appears in a breathtaking and fast paced finale.

A traditional puppet show with a rich tapestry of medieval characters who are beautifully manipulated, featuring glove puppet dancing monks, a huge masked French queen, rod puppet princess and chancellor and a tabletop George who is the unlikely hero of the day.

The show has won many awards for its comedy and fast paced entertainment with a frisson of fear for the whole family.

Performers Iklooshar Malara and Mark Pitman

Direction Mark Bell

Puppetry direction Joy Haynes
