Two wooden puppets in focus. They are Hansel and Grettel. They are rosy cheeked and blue eyed with "hats" made from half baguettes. The background is blurred but shows strings of fairy lights in the top right corner, an office desk and a leafy indoor plant on a window ledge.

We have chosen to delay opening the Theatre in full until October 2021. Why are we doing this, and what does this mean for our audiences? Well, for starters, we’re not going into hibernation – far from it!

The Theatre is currently undergoing quite a few transformations; some big and some small. We’re making changes to our office space, to our online space, to our public spaces and to our people. Everyone at the Theatre is currently hard at work and we want to make sure everything is just right, so we have decided to give ourselves a little more time to make it the best it can be.

Our creative production teams also have a busy few months ahead, as our theatre company has some brand new shows in development for autumn and beyond, and a few of our current shows are heading out on tour throughout the summer. Our creative engagement team is continuing to adapt our work with schools, and we have so many wonderful community projects in the pipeline too.

All of this work behind the scenes means our events will look a little different this summer. We’ve also listened to your feedback and know that people feel safest outside at the moment, so instead of indoor shows and workshops we are planning some outdoor events. This includes a special day in the Bishop’s Garden on Sunday 8 August and some Puppet Theatre garden events as well.

We know our audience members are looking forward to enjoying shows in the main theatre and getting creative in the Octagon again. We promise that when the time comes, we’ll be back better than before!

For announcements about our summer events and to stay up to date with the changes at the Theatre, keep an eye on our social media channels, below, or send us an email at [email protected] to be added to our mailing list.

In the meantime, don’t forget our YouTube content is available any time for a little puppet pick-me-up!
