After a competitive selection process, Norwich Puppet Theatre is delighted to announce that Colette Garrigan has been appointed as our new Theatre Manager.

Colette will be replacing Ian Woods, who is retiring from the position after working at the Theatre in some capacity for over 22 years. On behalf of the Theatre team, board of trustees and community, we would like to thank Ian immensely for his care and commitment to his work. Ian will be leaving us at the end of March, after a generous handover period with Colette and the rest of the team. Colette joins us officially on the 8th February 2021.

No stranger to Norwich Puppet Theatre, Colette worked as a puppeteer and maker with us in the 1980s, at the very beginning of her puppetry career. Since 1999, Colette has been Creative and Administrative Director of Company Akselere. Founded by Colette in Normandy, France, Akselere is a touring theatre company specialising in puppetry and related arts.

Colette writes “It was with great pleasure that I received the news that my candidature had been successful and without hesitation, I accepted the invitation to take up this very exciting post.

“We are facing great challenges at this time. We are in a major period of change and we are

indeed moving towards a new normal. But this is a very exciting time, a time to create.

“Better days are on their way and I believe that this new year 2021 is a bridge towards them.”

Nic Hopkins, Chair of the Board of Trustees notes: “Our Board is excited with the appointment of Colette Garrigan. Her skills, energy and ambition made her our preferred candidate amongst a fantastically strong set of talented respondents.

“It would be wrong not to pay tribute to Ian Woods’ skill and experience at the helm in our recent years; the love our audiences and supporters show us, as well as our continued viability, are a huge tribute to him.”

Norwich Puppet Theatre has been producing and presenting puppetry shows, activities and workshops for 40 years. Since the first national lockdown, we have been producing digital content for family audiences in collaboration with other artists and companies. This includes free creative workshops and new online performances. Our work behind the scenes continues as well, as we develop new shows, collaborate on community projects, and plan a new creative learning programme.

The team is enthusiastically entering this next stage in the Theatre’s development, during what will no doubt be a transitional year for many.
